Cuba Libre

by Christoph Gassner

Visiting Cuba has been on my agenda for years. Crossing the Atlantic ocean for a conference in Toronto, offered the opportunity to make flying visit to Cuba with a chance of a connection flight directly to Toronto.

Havanna captivates by its beauty. Art deco buildings and good old American cars from the mid-fifties are frequent and spread throughout the whole city. Most impressing seemed the complete lack of merchandising advertisements. This allows unprecedented reliev of sales promotion for the tortured brains of Western civilisation citizens.

Alex and me were happy to find Arbelio and Beatrix – both working as physicists in Havanna – to show us around and give us an excellent explanation of how life in Cuba is lived.

All together, very recommendable.
