European Federation of Immunogenetics
EFI – European Federation of Immunogenetics – is one of my favourites when it comes to my job. This time, beautiful Barcelona in Spain was the place to meet.
Joining in where Conny (just finishing off her exams for general practitioner in Innsbruck) and Christoph (from the Central Institute for Blood Transfusion and Immunological Department as well). You may see them on one of the pictures, well associated with some bottles of red wine.
The congress itself was extremely impressive. It seems that one can now feel the promises of genetics more concisely than ever before. As seen in the field of immunogenetics, a collection of genes like Cytokines, Killer-Cell-Ig-like Receptors (KIR), Mannose-Binding-Lectin 2 (MBL2), and others solidify as anchor points for individualised diagnosis in an unprecedented array and context of diseases. Amazing how regulation of health is organised in our body and how differently people scope with immunological challenges!
